You and your fellow VINners asked how you could help colleagues struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, and the VIN Foundation responded.

The VIN Foundation has established a fund in collaboration with the University of Florida CVM Disaster Relief Fund and Irma Animal Relief Fund. The VIN Foundation will pay all processing fees, so 100% of your donations go to providing direct help.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Help your clients understand that mammary gland cancer in pets is similar to breast cancer in humans by using this awareness poster in your clinic. The pink ribbon and paw print poster is designed to be printed using 8.5x11" paper on any office printer.

Find a PDF of this poster in the Veterinary Partner article 'Boobies for Newbies: Mammary (Breast) Cancer for Companion Animals'. A link to the poster is also in the Miscellaneous section of the VIN Library.

CLINICAL UPDATES: BOARDS

Previous Veterinarian at Spay/Neuter Clinic Left Controlled Substances Behind: Is it Legal to Use Them?
Am I breaking any laws or regulations by performing surgeries at the facility using medications (especially controlled substances) that were left there by another doctor who will not be present?

Tooth Brushing by Itself is Worse Than Useless
Brushing can be great *if* it is done right. That means started *before* there is pathology or after pathology has been identified and treated and coupled with regular professional care. Brushing alone cannot treat established disease.

Choosing Bank for Loan for Practice Buy-In
I would try very hard to separate the business loan from your personal home, etc. If for some reason the economy tanks and you find yourself without a business to support the loan, you don't want to find yourself homeless too.
