Course Description:
In this interactive course, we will be discussing all aspects of obesity: causes, prevention, nutrition, and developing a weight loss program. Veterinary technicians are the cornerstone to maintaining a successful weight loss program in the clinic.
Week 1 (Real Time Session February 21):
Obesity as a Disease
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to
- Understand the pathology of obesity
- Identify the risks and causes of obesity
- Understand the importance of weight loss
Week 2 (Real Time Session February 28):
Tackling Obesity with Nutrition
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to
- Understand the different ways to use nutrition for weight loss
- Calculate energy requirements for weight loss
- Calculate feeding amounts for patients
Week 3 (Real Time Session March 7):
Developing a Weight Loss Program
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to
- Understand the importance of having a clinic program
- Develop a weight loss program
- Manage/maintain a weight loss program
Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required
to earn a certificate of completion for the course.

About the Instructor:
Kelly Gredner, RVT, VTS (Nutrition) is one of 14 members of the Academy of Veterinary Nutrition Technicians (AVNT), a NAVTA approved and AVMA recognized body that certifies Veterinary Technician Specialists (VTS). She is an independent consultant for Balance IT�, helping veterinary clinics further integrate nutrition into clinical practice, along with working in a small animal hospital. Kelly lives in Toronto, Ontario and is a self-proclaimed cat lady.

- Enrollment qualifications: VIN CE courses are open to
VIN member and non-member veterinarians. Veterinarians enrolling in a VSPN CE course
must be a VIN member. Veterinary support staff must be a VSPN member to enroll in a
VSPN CE or a VIN CE course open to VSPN member enrollment.
