Effects of Cyclosoprine on Activated T Cell Expression of IL-2 and IFN-gamma in Dogs

Dogs with anal furunculosis are often treated with the immunosuppressive drug cyclosporine. Our laboratory has developed an assay, "activated T- cell expression of IL-2 and IFN-gamma", to fine tune cyclosporine doses. Interpretation of the assay is optimized by knowing pre-treatment levels. Our laboratory has good pre-treatment assay data for most diseases, but lacks sufficient samples from dogs with anal furunculosis.

Study Design:
Case series for assay validation

Sample Size:
15 samples

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Canine anal furunculosis, diagnosed based on classic clinical appearance that has not yet been treated with cyclosporine.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Anal furunculosis that has been treated with cyclosporine

Samples:
A single blood sample from dogs in the early treatment phases of anal furunculosis, before they receive cyclosporine. A single 3 ml heparinized sample, collected and submitted in the first half of the week, will suffice.

Costs/Reimbursements
For the first 15 samples sent in for the anal furunculosis baseline project, we are offering the next post-cyclosporine T cell assay (whether on the anal furunculosis patient, or another patient) at no charge. Just remind us when you are submitting another clinical sample.
