West Nile Virus Update
On August 22, 2002, Dr. Brent Robbins met with the Centers for Disease Control to discuss the West Nile Virus (WNV) in Louisiana. The CDC and the LVMA are conducting a survey of veterinarians in the Slidell area regarding WNV. These veterinarians will also be asked to take blood samples from dogs and cats to check for WNV since the Slidell/Covington area is the epicenter for outbreaks in people. Four to six months from now, the CDC will provide information from the testing and surveys. Mike Bunning, DVM, is an epidemiologist working on this program.
