Description:
The VIN Feline Surgery for the General Practitioner Conference is a unique educational opportunity for the general practitioner to learn from highly regarded surgeons. This 2-day virtual event will feature useful content and key takeaways on the topics of anesthesia, hip disease, urinary bladder surgery, perineal urethrostomy, gastrointestinal surgery, enteral nutrition and feeding tubes, megacolon, and renal transplant overview.

Topic: Feline Anesthesia
Presenter: Rachel Reed, DVM, DACVAA
This lecture will cover the challenges of anesthetizing feline patients, and discuss strategies to provide successful and safe anesthetia in light of these concerns.

Session 1.2 (Friday, October 27, 2023; 6:30-7:20 pm ET)
Topic: Feline Hip Disease
Presenter: Whitney Hinson, DVM, MS, DACVS-SA
This lecture will cover the pathophysiology of feline hip disease, radiographic assessment, and updates on recent literature evaluating the treatment of cats with hip disease.

This lecture will cover gastrointestinal surgery in cats including pathophysiology, anatomy, pre-operative work-up, stablilization, surgical techniques, and post-operative management.

Session 2.2 (Saturday, October 28, 2023; 1:00-1:50 pm ET)
Topic: Enteral Nutrition and Feeding Tubes
Presenter: Mandy Wallace, DVM, MS, DACVS-SA
This lecture will cover indications for feeding tubes, surgical techniques for placement of various feeding tubes, and the importance of enteral nutrition in cats.

Topic: Megacolon

This lecture will cover megacolon in cats including pathophysiology, anatomy, pre-operative work-up, stablilization, surgical techniques, and post-operative management. Emphasis will be placed on surgical principles of subtotal colectomy.

Session 2.4 (Saturday, October 28, 2023; 3:15-4:05 pm ET)
Topic: Renal Transplant Overview
Presenter: Chad Schmiedt, DVM, DACVS-SA
This lecture will cover how to identify potential candidates, important components of the work-up prior to transplant, postoperative monitoring, and outcomes for cats undergoing renal transplantation.
