Level and Prerequisites: This basic course will be open to veterinarians actively interested in the role of the general practitioner in the support and recommendation of radiation oncology and how it is used as part of comprehensive cancer care for the veterinary patient.
VIN CE Course: Open to veterinarians. This course has been submitted for RACE approval for veterinarians.

Course Information:
This course will cover topics such as the basics of radiation oncology, how it can be used and what tumors are most appropriate to target with this therapy. Topics will include the types of cancer most commonly treated with radiation as well as the most effective combination treatments available (i.e. surgery, chemotherapy and immunotherapy). Novel approaches will also be covered so attendees will understand the most cutting-edge techniques available to veterinary patients. No prerequisite knowledge is required to attend this course.

About the Presenter:
Siobhan Haney received a BS from The George Washington University, where she was the recipient of an NCAA Div. I full athletic scholarship for gymnastics. She then attended Rutgers University in Camden, NJ for the completion of an MS in Biology, and graduated from the Executive MBA program at the Pennsylvania State University in 2014. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a VMD in 2004. After completing a medical and surgical internship at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital, she completed a residency in Radiation Oncology at Tufts University and became board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Radiology (Radiation Oncology) in 2008.
Dr. Haney has authored/ coauthored several scientific studies in multiple peer-reviewed journals and actively participates in ongoing multi-institutional clinical trials. She has presented scientific research at the annual Veterinary Cancer Society meeting and is an active member of the Veterinary Radiation Therapy Oncology Group. She frequently lectures on Radiation Oncology subjects both nationally and internationally. Dr. Haney has been practicing radiation oncology in the mid-Atlantic region since 2007. She currently practices at Hope Veterinary Specialists and the Veterinary CyberKnife Cancer Center in Pennsylvania where she is part of a larger group of medical and radiation oncologists. Her professional interests include stereotactic radiotherapy and palliative care/quality of life for cancer patients.

  1. Enrollment qualifications: VIN CE courses are open to VIN member and non-member veterinarians. Veterinarians enrolling in a VSPN CE course must be a VIN member. Veterinary support staff must be a VSPN member to enroll in a VSPN CE or a VIN CE course open to VSPN member enrollment.
  2. Each enrollee must be able to receive emails from @vspn.org and @vin.com addresses. Email is our major form of communication with participants; personal emails are highly recommended rather than clinic/hospital email addresses.
