Level and Prerequisites: This basic course will be open to veterinarians and veterinary support staff actively interested in the management and treatment of diabetic cats.
VIN CE Course: Open to veterinarians and veterinary support staff. This course is approved by RACE for veterinarians and veterinary technicians/technologists. (RACE 22-34509)

Course Information:
Why is diabetes so challenging to manage in some cats? Which insulin and diet should you choose? What data do we have to support these decisions? Performing and interpreting glucose curves provides the necessary information to determine best type of insulin as well as dose adjustments in a patient. However, performing curves isn't appropriate for every client. The goals of therapy are not the same for different patients and different clients. Adjunctive approaches to help client's care for their diabetic cat will be discussed.

Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required to earn a certificate of completion for the course. About the Presenter(s):
Margie Scherk graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1982. In 1986 she opened Cats Only Veterinary Clinic in Vancouver, Canada practicing there until 2008. She achieved ABVP Board certification in feline practice in 1995 and published several clinical trials whilst in practice. She has written numerous book chapters and is an active international speaker as well as enjoying teaching on-line. She is co-editor of the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery. Margie has served extensively in the American Association of Feline Practitioners as well other veterinary organizations. Her interests include all things feline, but in particular, analgesia, the peculiarities of the feline digestive system and enabling more positive interactions with cats.

  1. Enrollment qualifications: VIN CE courses are open to VIN member and non-member veterinarians. Veterinarians enrolling in a VSPN CE course must be a VIN member. Veterinary support staff must be a VSPN member to enroll in a VSPN CE or a VIN CE course open to VSPN member enrollment.
  2. Each enrollee must be able to receive emails from @vspn.org and @vin.com addresses. Email is our major form of communication with participants; personal emails are highly recommended rather than clinic/hospital email addresses.
  3. Each person is individually responsible for his/her own registration. To ensure that all information received is secure and correct, please do not enroll for a course on behalf of another individual.
