Cats are unique and develop unusual endocrine diseases that we are just starting to characterize. This series will focus on the less common endocrine diseases that the veterinarian will encounter in feline practice. These will include hyperadrenocorticism, hyperaldosteronism (Conn’s syndrome), hypothyroidism, hypoadrenocorticism, hypoparathyroidism, and hyperparathyroidism. Pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic criteria, treatment options, and things that can go wrong will be presented. Case examples will be used to highlight the diseases, and ample time will be given to address questions. Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the participant should be able to
- recognize the clinical signs associated with less common feline endocrine diseases.
- design successful diagnostic and treatment protocols for less common feline endocrine diseases.
- discuss treatment options and prognostic variables with owners of cats with these diseases.
