Course Information:
One of the biggest issues facing the veterinary profession is a lack of support staff. Almost 1 out 3 support staff recently surveyed plan to exit the field within the next two years. It is crucial for leaders to focus on employee engagement and retention. These are not just catch phrases, but you may not know what you can do to keep engaged. In this course, you will learn about the drivers of engagement, explore the progress principle, and learn tools and tips that you can put into practice.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
  • Understand how to help employees commit, engage, and excel.
  • Explore how organizational factors, career satisfaction, coworker relationships and credible leadership affect engagement.
  • Know the progress principle and how it affects motivation.
  • Utilize tools for gratitude and reframing to improve engagement and retention.
  • Understand how purpose and resilience can be boosted to improve engagement and retention.
  • Explore feedback as a tool to change your culture and improve retention.
Level and Prerequisites: This basic VSPN CE course will be open for enrollment to veterinarians, veterinary technicians/technologists, support staff, and veterinary teams, actively interested in employee engagements and retention.

RACE Accreditation: This program has been approved for 3 hours of continuing education credit in jurisdictions which recognize RACE approval.(20-901650) AHMA Accreditation: Submitted - This course has been submitted to VHMA for CVPM credit.

Course Agenda:

Week 1 (Real Time Session June 8): What Drives Employee Engagement?
This session will explore what is behind the lack of engagement in our profession and the workplace. The focus will be on learning the drivers of engagement, including organizational factors, career satisfaction, co-worker relationships and credible leadership. The progress principle will be introduced to show how to improve motivation.

Week 2 (Real Time Session June 15): Employee Engagement & Retention Tricks and Tips
This session will explore tools that focus on gratitude and reframing, which improve employee engagement and retention. Purpose and resilience will be discussed as pillars of engagement. Feedback styles and ratios of positive to negative feedback will be discussed as well.

Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required to earn a certificate of completion for the course. To learn more about the requirements for earning a CE certificate, please refer to Receiving Your CE Credit and Course Completion Certificate.

Course Materials: Course materials will be available in the course library prior to each Real Time Session.
