Course Information:
In recent times, the importance of an infection control program has stomped its way onto the forefront. Based largely on the expert opinions responsible for the 2018 AAHA ICPB Guidelines, recommendations for best practices surrounding everything from what constitutes an infectious agent to, ‘How do I kill it?’, and how to prevent the spread of diseases. Are YOU ready to implement an infection control program?

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
  • Identify the types of organisms capable of causing disease and infection.
  • Understand the chain of infection.
  • Describe the difference between critical, semi-critical, and non-critical medical devices.
  • Identify the different Spaulding categories.
  • Describe how to care for intravenous and urinary catheters.
  • Describe steps necessary to set up an infection control program.
  • Develop strategies to mitigate risk of infection in the veterinary hospital.
Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate VSPN CE non-interactive course will be open to veterinary technicians/technologists, support staff, etc. - actively interested in infection control in the veterinary facility.
