Are you seeking last-minute CE credits for license renewal? Are you passionate about all things anesthesia? This is the event for you! VSPN is pleased to offer this one-day conference on Saturday, December 12, 2020. This is a one-day event, with four 90-minute sessions presented in webinar format. You must attend to earn a certificate of participation. There will be a one-hour break for lunch at 1:00pm ET.

Participants will have access to the abstracts for each presentation 2 weeks prior to the event. There are no library materials or end of course test associated with this event. You must be a VIN or VSPN member to enroll. VSPN is seeking RACE approval for veterinary technicians for this event; we are not seeking approval for veterinarian CEU’s.

PROGRAM

10:00-11:30am ET
10-Step Process to Developing a Balanced Anesthesia Protocol        
Presenter: Darci Palmer BS, LVT, VTS (Anesthesia & Analgesia)

Objectives: 

  • Be able to formulate an anesthetic drug protocol to meet the individual needs of each patient.    
  • Develop an anesthetic protocol that is best prepared by utilizing a systematic approach to drug selection. 
  • Be able to define the components of balanced anesthesia and provide an overview of the common anesthetic drugs used for premedication, induction and maintenance.

Post-Operative Analgesia Options
Presenter: Tasha M. McNerney, CVT, CVPP, VTS (Anesthesia & Analgesia)

Objectives:        

  • Understand the pain pathways
  • Create a multimodal analgesia plan for post-operative care
  • Explore non-pharmacological modalities for patient comfort

Anesthesia for the Emergency Trauma Patient
Presenter: Katy W. Waddell, LVT, VTS (Emergency/Critical Care) and (Anesthesia/Analgesia)

Objectives:

  • Be able to assess the patient pre-operatively
  • How to monitor the emergency trauma patient pre-surgically well through the post-operative and recovery phases.
  • Develop of plan to control pain for the trauma patient.

What would you do? Working Through Anesthetic Case Scenarios in Small Animal Patients
Presenter: Jody Nugent-Deal, RVT, VTS (Anesthesia) and (Companion Exotic Animal)

  • Critically work through a small animal case presented for anesthesia.
  • Be able to prepare a proper anesthetic and monitoring protocol for the type of case presented.
  • Be able to identify advanced anesthetic techniques that could be used for each case presented.

Student pricing: $40 (USD) for students currently enrolled in and taking at least 2 classes or 5 units at an AVMA accredited or CVMA approved Veterinary Technician Program may be eligible to receive a 50% discount off the regular price for this event (upon verification of student status).
