Trauma cases are seen in both general practice and emergency critical care practices and VSPN is happy to bring this ECC online conference to you. This conference on Saturday, March 27, 2021, will cover many aspects of trauma. This is a one-day event, with four 75-minute sessions presented in webinar format. You must attend to earn a certificate of participation.

Participants will have access to the abstracts for each presentation 1 week prior to the event. There are no library materials or end of course test associated with this event. You must be a VIN or VSPN member to enroll. RACE approved for veterinary technicians for this event(20-768363); we are not seeking approval for veterinarian CEU’s.

Triage of the Traumatic Emergency        
Presenter: Andrea Steele MSc, RVT, VTS (ECC)

Objectives: 

  • Understand the common triage scoring methods used in veterinary medicine    
  • Understand and apply triage principles to traumatic emergencies
  • Understand the Primary and Secondary Surveys

  • Understand what shock is
  • Learn about emergency fluid therapy
  • Understand common treatments done to stabilize emergency patients

Objectives:

  • Understand multi-modal drug therapy and drug mechanisms
  • Understanding pain physiology
  • Understanding the physiologic responses to pain

Mythbusters: ECC Pharmacology Edition
Presenter: Liz Hughston, MEd., RVT, CVT, LVT, VTS (SAIM, ECC)

Objectives:

  • Understand why doxapram is contraindicated during neonatal resuscitation and CPR
  • Be confident in choices of analgesic agents in emergent and critical patients
  • Understand complexities surrounding GI motility agents
  • Have references regarding maintenance of peripheral and central IV access catheters/lines
  • Recognize inappropriate use of steroids in emergent patients
