Course Information:
This course on advanced anesthetic techniques will provide an interactive discussion about common drugs, basic pharmacology, and the advantages of including multimodal anesthesia and analgesia into your practice. Participants will lead through constant rate infusion calculations as well as how to perform various locoregional techniques including, but not limited to epidural/coccygeal anesthesia/analgesia and local blocks such as ring blocks, incisional blocks, dental blocks, testicular blocks, and soaker catheter administration.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
  • Identify the common drugs used for multimodal anesthetic techniques and thus how to properly put together an anesthetic protocol in conjunction with the veterinarian.
  • Be able to properly calculate and set-up drugs/supplies used for constant rate infusions and local blocks.
  • Apply the techniques utilized in administration of locoregional anesthetic and analgesic techniques.
Level and Prerequisites: This advanced VSPN CE course will be open for enrollment to veterinary technicians/technologists actively interested in advanced anesthesia techniques.

RACE Accreditation: This program has been approved for 2 hours of continuing education credit in jurisdictions which recognize RACE approval.(20-913398)

Course Agenda:

Week 1 (Real Time Session July 18): Advanced Anesthetic Techniques
This session will start with a quick review of common anesthetic drugs used for multimodal anesthesia/analgesia. We will then discuss constant rate infusions, proper calculation of the CRI for administration in both a bag and syringe pump, and then finish up with discussion and videos on various locoregional block techniques.

Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required to earn a certificate of completion for the course. To learn more about the requirements for earning a CE certificate, please refer to Receiving Your CE Credit and Course Completion Certificate.
