Course Information:
Do dogs really need braces?! The answer is….maybe! We can do orthodontics in some cases to correct a traumatic occlusion. Why would a dog need braces? Every patient has the right to a comfortable bite! Malocclusions causing trauma (PAIN!) should be treated and corrected to help keep our patients pain free. Malocclusions can easily be overlooked due to the lack of being able to recognize them. Find out what’s normal for our dogs and cats and what’s abnormal. The classes of malocclusions will be discussed in detail so the veterinary staff member will be able to correctly identify the problem. Learn what the proper potential treatment options are for the different classes of malocclusions. Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • Learn what a normal occlusion is.
  • Recognize when an occlusion is abnormal.
  • Determine the class of malocclusion.
  • Recognize if a malocclusion is traumatic or non-traumatic.
  • Know what the potential treatment options are for the different malocclusions.
Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate VSPN CE course will be open for enrollment to veterinary technicians/technologists, support staff, veterinary teams, etc. actively interested in in recognizing canine and feline malocclusions..
Credit Approval: This program has been approved for 1.5 hours of continuing education credit in jurisdictions that recognize RACE approval.(20-1009914)
