Course Information:
The technician’s role in managing patients in shock is vital to successful patient outcomes. This course will discuss the pathophysiology of shock. We will go over the various types of shock as well as the different stages of shock our patients may be dealing with. Our focus will be on the technician’s role in recognizing shock and managing patients in the various types of shock states.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • Recognize various types of shock including: hypovolemic shock, distributive shock, cardiogenic shock and Obstructive shock
  • Understand the different stages of shock
  • Understand the pathophysiology what is happening to our patients in shock
  • Understand the treatment options for shock
Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate VSPN CE course is open to enrollment toveterinary technicians/technologists, support staff, and veterinary teams actively interested in shock and shock treatment .

Course Agenda:

Week 1 (Real Time Session May 4): What’s trending now? Managing Patients in Shock
This presentation will be a discussion about the pathophysiology of shock, the stages of shock, and the different types of shock After understanding the affects that shock has on our patients, we will discuss treatment options and how to manage them.
