Request for Samples—Herding breeds (collies, shelties, etc) experiencing adverse drug reactions
The Veterinary Clinical Pharmacology Laboratory at Washington State University is seeking samples for a research project funded by the Collie Club of America Foundation. The objective of the project is to determine if dogs with the MDR1 mutation associated with ivermectin sensitivity are also susceptible to toxicities from other drugs.
We are requesting cheek swab samples from dogs that have experienced unexpected toxicity from “normal” doses of drugs, particularly drugs that are P-glycoprotein substrates such as digoxin, cyclosporine A, doxorubicin, vincristine, vinblastine, some steroids, acepromazine, ondansetron, and potentially other antiparasitic agents (milbemycin, selamectin, moxidectin). We will also accept samples from dogs with suspected toxicity (particularly neurotoxicity) from other drugs.
